Adjectives - ESL instruction

An adjective is a word that modifies a noun. It can describe the size, color, or quality of a thing: the blue sky, her red nails, a beautiful smile. Here are examples of often-used adjectives:

beautiful

white

old

hilarious

pink

kind

enjoyable

purple

patient

wonderful


Choose the adjective that makes more sense in the sentence.

  1. I enjoy a hot/ugly cup of coffee in the morning.

  2. Our precious/yellow daughter is first in her class.

  3. The president is a smelly/superb orator.

  4. The wealthy/stale woman hired an executive assistant.

  5. Do you know that beautiful/unwarranted soul?

  7. He had a turquoise/late dinner.

  9. I want to visit the Smart/White House.

  10. My mother is so approachable/little; she can strike up a conversation with anyone.
