Vulnerability

Women are the backbone of a nation—delicate and strong. They deserve our respect. They complement the masculine. They are the sacred feminine. Women are wives and mothers. They are precious daughters and beloved sisters. If anything, we should smother them with love—hugs and kisses. They work in the home or in the office. They play the role of doctors, lawyers, engineers, nurses, teachers, judges, authors, photographers, and other professions.

Today, women’s bodies are a battleground. Rape is a weapon of war in a time of armed conflict. I pray for women who search for food for their families, who seek to protect their communities and are attacked in public or private; I pray for them to experience justice. What we see is horrific, but not the inevitable result of political skirmishes.

Sexual violence is not a requisite part of a military strategy. In fact, it is counterproductive, because it inculcates distrust, inflicts pain, and leads to generations of innocent people inheriting trauma and shame. Two opposing sides must find common ground and discuss ways to achieve success that would mutually benefit. If the struggle is over resources, we must do what’s in the best interest of both parties. Humans are our most valuable resource, and God is our source. We must realize that humans are only stewards while on this earth. God is the sole Owner—the only one who can guide, who is worthy of worship.

It is soulless to rape a woman or a child. It is heartless to terrorize vulnerable populations. It is a precarious position to be in to attain power and control by using vehement force, because a stronger opponent will always come. Focus on honest gain and negotiation. Be an empathic listener. We all want peace at the end of the day. Reach the heights by extending compassion and lovingkindness. Rely on wisdom. Don’t create a living nightmare. Be prepared to fight your inner self. Show people you care about the future. Be merciful today. Be gentle with your words and mindful with your actions. Put in a small, but consistent effort. You’re not in control of everything, but you can choose to respond instead of giving in to a negative reaction.

War is driven by the profit motive. It is sinister. Instead, broker peace and use your talents to build not to destroy. Death is imminent. We are all accountable before our Creator. I pray more people take the meeting with their Lord seriously and repent while they still have breath—while they’re able. Despite a mountain of sins, it is possible to change your ways. What we need is discipline more than punishment. Let’s put the past behind us and forge a new path. Let’s work on a win-win outcome. Let’s focus on forgiveness and openness, healing, and development. I wish everyone an honest look in the mirror. Who am I? Where do I belong? Answering those two questions could take awhile. Then with the intent of doing good, ask, “How can I help?” Surely, that will bring a smile.

No need to assail with insults. We’re all made of the same stuff. Don’t puff up your chest with arrogance. Bow your head with humility instead. And He will lift you up.
